Kids Say ......

My kids have me in stitches, and at other times, they are so sweet!

Some creative spelling attempts:

I asked this student to label his 3D shapes (I should have been a little more clear....)

The perspectives of a six-year-old:

Happy to see these students using their imagination:

The priorities of a second-grade girl:

Sometimes I am amazed at how sweet they can be:

ICT Maths Resources

Click on the following links to visit some of my favourite web tools and mathematical instructional videos:

Khan Academy lets you watch, practice and learn anything for free.

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives is a library of uniquely interactive manipulatives for mathematical instruction.

Splat Square is an interactive hundreds chart that allows you the splat a variety of colours on the numbers.

3D Shapes Ballet - a fun video on geometric shapes:

Money Links - interactive games for K-2 students:

Mr Men and Little Miss

Roger Hargrave's Mr Men and Little Miss books are rich in language and entertain students from preschool through to primary.

Many of the stories have lessons and morals applicable to school-age children.

To make the book more meaningful, create a comprehension task (see sample below) for students to complete.

POP-ular Teacher Gift Idea

Popcorn for a popular teacher!

This is a cute teacher appreciation or Kris Kringle gift and can be modified for students too....

All About Me Bunting

Cute idea for back to school: have students complete one of these and display across a wall or on string for visitors to admire!

Chance

To play this mathematical CHANCE game:

  • Roll a dice 40 times.
  • Each time you roll, colour a box of the number you rolled.
  • Start from the bottom up, so it looks like a column graph.

Pose questions such as:

  1. What is the chance of rolling a '2' on the next throw?
  2. How many '3's did you roll?
  3. Why is your answer different to the group next to you?

You're a Star!

Starbursts for a star!

Give these to the kids on their first day at school, or as a prize in the Lucky Dip box!

(Sample tag below can be printed off and affixed to plastic bag).

May The Force Be With You

To pump my students up for their new Science unit of work on Forces (Push/Pull, and Float/Sink), I made these Star Wars light saber bookmarks for them.

Using an image from google, I inserted a glow stick for the light saber.

It wasn't until after I had distributed them, that it was pointed out to me that a 'clone' wouldn't have used a light saber so I'll have to modify the bookmark again before the next time I teach this unit!

Sensory Recipes

When I worked in Prep, we made a tub of sensory play every day.

The following are some recipes and ideas for dough and goop, that little kids love to stick their little hands into and play with:

For an EXTRA-ordinary person!

Wrap up some Wriggles EXTRA chewing gum for that EXTRAordinary teacher!
