Handwriting Cues

No Astronaut Letters!

Encouraging students to write all their letters on the base line is half the battle of handwriting lessons.

Explaining this to my first graders, I told them that I did not want their letters “flying around on the page, off in space somewhere”. One clever little kid piped up and said “So, no astronaut letters then?”

Genius!

This has become our goal during handwriting lessons; for all letters to sit on the baseline and not fly around the page off in space like an astronaut. The students now take more ownership over their learning as it is more relevant to them.
