This was an assessment task I had my 2nd graders complete this year. Students were given a handful of jelly beans and had to sort them according to colour. They recorded tallies and graphed in a column graph.
This is a Kindergarten sample worksheet I have used; it is easily modified to include more complex questions for older students.
