Heart Hands

This is a lovely birthday, Mothers or Father's Day card idea that is really simple to make!




1. Chose two different coloured pieces of paper, and fold one in half.

2. Trace hand , ensuring the index finger and thumb touch the centre crease.

3. Carefully cut out the hand print.

4. Open - you should see a heart shape between the two hands.

5. Paste onto the other piece of paper. Decorate and write message!

Jar Clouds

As part of our Stage 2 Science unit on Water last year, my class conducted this Jar Cloud experiment to demonstrate precipitation in the Water Cycle. It was also linked to our English Procedural writing task for that term as well.





What You Need:

• Shaving cream
• Glass jar
• Water
• Coloured food dye

 

Method:

1. Fill the jar 3/4 full of water (atmosphere)
2. Squirt shaving cream on top (cloud)
3. Drop food dye droplets on top of the shaving foam
4. Watch the dye leak through the foam and into the water.

Guess Who?

GUESS WHO?

"Changes Over Time" was our HSIE unit, and we had displayed in our room, photographs of students from when they were babies. At the end of the week, and without having discussed their ideas, we held a class competition to see who could correctly guess the most amount of children to their baby photos.

Each photo was numbered and students had to write their guess on a worksheet for collection.

Butterfly Lifecycle

 

To create these (delicious!) butterflies, simple chose a desirable template from google images:

 

I selected this one and copied it onto cardboard. Students coloured and decorated their butterfly and I poked holes in them for the lollipop.

How to spell "FEW"!

Soda - Sugar Content (Float and Sink)

This was a very interesting experiment conducted in my Year 2 Science class.

Hypothesis: Why do some cans sink while others float?

Materials:
- Four different soda cans - two being diet. All being equal size and volume.
- One large transparent container
- Water

Method:
1. Fill the container with water
2. Place a regular soda can in the water
3. Observe and discuss
4. Place a diet can in the water
5. Observe and discuss
6. Repeat with other two cans

Findings:
The sugar content in a regular can on soft drink is higher than that of a diet can, therefore leading to differing densities. The regular soda cans will sink whilst the diet cans will float.

 

 

Sugar was shown to demonstrate the sugar content in the soda can.

When I Grow Up

Each student was asked to write about what they wanted to be when they grew up as part of our HSIE unit on 'Change Over Time'. They dressed in character and presented a speech to the class. We also role-played and I video-taped it as part of our assembly item.
